March 2017 Update: Annual Ox Roasts and Mud Sales

It's 2017 and it seems like a blink or two and now we are already in MARCH! We have travelers passing through in Winter and visitors to the area, however March seems to be a bit of a kick off time for our guest season here. We have new reservations popping up almost daily and dates are filling in for the year.

We're starting to see the first bits of color on our trees at Stumptown Manor

March is also the time that Mud Sales start. Why are they called mud sales? My version is that they are fundraisers for our local fire companies who are funded and run by volunteers! These sales happen ... to help raise money to keep their doors open and volunteers available and equipment up and running. So this happens in Spring before farming season is not yet underway, at least not fully and partly because the fields are still too wet to work in., therefore called MUD sales.

The next fundraiser famous OX ROAST right here in our town of Witmer is on schedule for April 22, 11:30-6:30! Family Style is $15 and you eat with the locals. Or take out for same price!

Also kicking off soon is Sight and Sound with Jonah running as the SHOW for this season. Starting March 11-October 14, 2017 .You'll be fascinated by this very powerful story about a man who ran away from GOD! You'll see him learn about receiving GRACE and extending MERCY in this story after being thrown overboard on a boat he used ..... to run in the other direction! Come see it here in our town.

Gracie's on West Main is one of these little local restaurants that surprised me recently! We stopped by for a quick cup of Soup, they have delicious and homemade, awesome soups, and noticed how much they've grown! That was the surprise! But no wonder, their food is delicious and wonderful and lots of people found them. They pride themselves in HOMEMADE, and LOCAL fare, FAMILY recipes that are passed down and GREAT SERVICE!

Visit one of our many Markets right here in Lancaster County. Lemon Street Market is different in that they are OPEN seven days a week. (241 W. Lemon Street, Lancaster) Cafe also open daily. Most markets have Open hours that are weekends or Tuesday, or Friday only!

And if you happen to be here on a cooler, rainy day as is still possible going toward Spring, we have Plenty of shopping close by. Target is only five minutes away with a Goodwill across the street from them. Kohl's shopping Center is only a minute or two more and also Rockvale Outlets with all its assorted stores and Kirkland and many more close by. Also indoor shopping at Park City! Spooky Nook Sports is an option if you have teens and tweens in your group.

Our granddaughters enjoying the unusually warm February weather at a recent family event.

So COME and STAY with us at Stumptown Manor and explore the area! We are located right here in Amish Country and near so much activity, and attractions, but have a quiet place for you to sleep at night, with cozy rooms and comfortable beds AND a great, simple breakfast!

Next month, I hope to feature some out door fun, like hiking trails, great bike riding, and ziplining.

Good words to live by :)
