August 2016 Update: Trains, Airplanes, and Other End-of-Summer Adventures

I can hardly believe that summer is already drawing to a close! Already kids are heading back to school and I'm starting to think about pumpkins and cooler weather coming up soon. For those of you that aren't ready to bid the fun of summer goodbye just yet, Lancaster still has some fun events coming up. Check out the lineup below and if you're in town, don't forget to book a room at Stumptown Manor!

This week at Rough & Tumble, don'ts miss the "steam expo." All 33 acres of history and exhibits and old engines. You get to ride a steam train around the grounds, and see the real steam engines at work! Restored John Deere tractors and IH and Rumely, grace the grounds just for your enjoyment. Rough and Tumble is the second oldest show in the country.

This event is packed with activities for the whole family. Learn how missions use technology and see mission exhibits! The theme this year is " It takes a TEAM!" Because this is only a few minutes away, we have often taken in these mission days at the airport and love this event. Starting with a pancake breakfast, you will love the airplanes and flight demonstrations, etc. and lots of food and people!

August 27, fireworks | Strasburg Pizza Shop

The Strasburg Pizza Shop is celebrating their fifth year in business on August 27th with a fireworks display! They're saying THANK YOU to the community and it's friends and family, and folks from out of town! Strasburg Pizza is one of those places that loves to see community come together to hang out and celebrate. Join them for dinner, than stick around for the show!

Cherry Crest Adventure Farm is another Farm is open to visitors and great for children and grown ups alike. I love their slogan, "Where fun grows," because it really seems to do just that! You walk in and see animals, and eat corn on the cob, and slide down the sliding board, and play in the corn maze! Its all fun and it seems to grow everywhere on that farm! Starting the third weekend in September, Cherry Crest will be hosting their flashlight maze. These will last into early November. Great activity for your growing-up-kids looking for a little scary in their fun.

Oregon Dairy is a great restaurant for your whole family to enjoy, with unique selections like corn meal mush. OK, maybe you have to grow up in Lancaster County to even know what that is :)

They have two final deck concerts coming up – one in September and one in October – along with other fun activities like hayrides and pumpkin pickin' days. Check out their calendar for a full event lineup. Here's what was going on there the last time we stopped by for dinner:
