March 2016 Update: Mud Sales, First Fridays, and the Quilt Show

As I mentioned in last month’s update, mud sales are the place to be for bargain shoppers! Not bargain as in always the lowest price, more a bargain because it’s unusual and you can find things that are completely unseen in any other place besides Lancaster County.

Lancaster County mud sales are an annual tradition that brings our communities together to raise funds for local, volunteer fire companies. Anything and everything is for sale: farm produce, cattle, quilts, housewares, lumber, antiques, or that unusual piece for the perfect place in your front room. And all the money you spend here raises money for the good of the community.

Oh, yeah, and did I mention the food? Great chicken corn soup, handmade soft pretzels, baked goods, and always hot coffee to keep your hands warm as you watch the fun. These sales will be happening throughout March. Here’s the lineup:

More fun things happening over the coming weeks:

  • And of course, Spring is coming! My favorite time of the year and I can hardly wait. Here are a few photos I snapped around the property a few years ago during Spring, it gets me so excited looking at them!

  • Samson will be coming to Sight and Sound Theater starting on March 12th. The story of Samson is a Bible story, a very captivating one. The show will be running until December.

  • Quilt Week is back, March 16-19 at Lancaster County’s Convention Center. Four full days of quilts and fun with quilters from the U.S. And around the world. This huge merchant mall will feature the latest in quilt making supplies, classes, and gifts. If you haven’t booked a room yet for your stay, we’ve still got some availability and are offering group rates if you’re traveling with friends. Here are a few of my favorite close-by quilt shops.

  • For art lovers and shoppers like, Downtown Lancaster’s First Fridays are the perfect spot, featuring over 90 vendors who open their doors and stretch their hours all concentrated in Lancaster’s charming downtown district. First Friday’s are a great way to enjoy the city’s creative side. In warmer weather, outdoor dining, and food truck vendors add to an experience that’s unforgettable.
